Currently run by the family’s third generation, Madawaska Kanu Centre was the vision of Christa & Hermann Kerckhoff. Winning the individual Canadian whitewater kayak title in 1968 the couple was inspired to get more paddlers out on rivers. The first whitewater school in the world was born. Modeled after the European ski school concept where paddlers are divided into skill level groups, good food, and a great atmosphere lead to the ‘Rapid Education’ we know as MKC today! The Madawaska River location became the River of choice with its technical rapids and guaranteed surface water releases providing warm whitewater all summer long.

Overview

MKC's Weekend Canoe Clinic is an introduction to the exciting world of whitewater canoeing. The course begins with students reviewing basic strokes on flatwater and then applying these skills in easy currents. For the more experienced paddler, use this course as a great whitewater refresher. Both the Weekend and 5-Day Courses are perfect for preparing for a multi-day river trip.
Highly recommended by Black Feather, Nahanni River Adventures, and Wanapetei as a must-do before joining one of their wilderness canoe trips. This course will lay a foundation of basic skills - add to this MKC's hospitality and you have the perfect start to your new sport. Full use of MKC's facilities, including hot outdoor showers and a log sauna, choice of camping, lodge or cabana accommodation along with gourmet meals are included. Courses run every weekend from the beginning of May until Labour Day weekend in September.
