Loreto, Baja California Sur
Day 1:
Weather dependent, we may go to Magdalena Bay on the Pacific side of the Baja Peninsula via panga. Watch mother gray whales and their young swim together. After lunch in the fishing village of Puerto Lopez Mateo, we head back to the Sea of Cortez to kayak to our first night's camp.
Day 2:
Guides allot 3 - 4 hours/day for kayaking--half before lunch, half after--and the rest of the day for campsite exploration. Hike arroyos and desert hillsides. Discover the rich flora of the Sonoran desert. Snorkel to marvel the abundant, exotic marine life.
Day 3:
After a day or two exploring the coves, bays and beaches of the islands, we'll cross back over to the shores of the peninsula. The coastal route, with the majestic Giganta mountain range over our right shoulder, offers longer hiking trails that reveal the inland wilderness.
Day 4:
Weather and pace-dependent, this may be a rest/layover day. Try your hand at line fishing for triggerfish, pargo, or cabrilla, from which your guides will make fresh ceviche. Enjoy a guided nature walk in the desert. There's plenty of time for more paddling, snorkeling, and exploration.
Day 5:
You'll camp near a small island hot spring that can be visited by wading acros a sand spit at low tide. Weather permitting, you can soak in the warm minteral water, letting your muscles and mind relax after active days of paddling down the Gulf of California. We may visit local ranches in the area.
Day 6:
After an early sunrise paddle, we load up and head back by mid-morning. If there hasn't been a whale watching excursion to Magdalena Bay yet, this is the day guides will try to make it happen. Afterwards, you'll be taken to your Loreto hotel, then have the evening for exploration and dinner.
What Guests Are Saying
This kayaking trip far exceeded expectations. Knowledgable, friendly guide with great paddling skills took us to many pristine spots, made us feel totally safe, and even made us yummy meals. We camped on empty beaches, slept with the sunset and sunrise, and laughed. The kicker-being woken up by the sound of humpbacks whales
