Coastal Adventures

Coastal Adventures is Atlantic Canada’s foremost sea kayaking operation and 2022 is our 42th year of offering coastal paddling excursions. We have something for every interest and skill level, whether you are a beginner or an expert. We offer Full Day and Half Day Trips from our base in Tangier, Extended Tours throughout the region and Instruction at our kayak school. We can also Rent equipment for those who wish to do it on their own and we can welcome you in our Paddler’s Retreat B&B.

Overview

Only an hour from metropolitan Halifax, along Nova Scotia’s ragged Eastern Shore, lies a fascinating and largely forgotten archipelago of wilderness islands. During the 3-5 day tours you will journey among this exceptional island group and interpret it’s unique biology, geology and history. The meandering path will take you to seabird colonies and seal haul-outs, along sand beaches and exposed cliffs, and into idyllic hidden coves where few other vessels dare venture.

These isolated outposts of beach, bog, barren and forest have retained their pristine nature, changing little since Samuel de Champlain France sailed among the islands of the Eastern Shore in 1607. He was the first European to chart this rugged and indented coastline. His original name of this section, “Baye de toute Isles”, still remains with us today. Recently, the Nova Scotia Nature Trust has launched a campaign to preserve this unique natural heritage for future generations. This is a sea kayaking tour for both beginners and families, as well as the inquisitive expert.
