Founded in 1994 we are located on Lake Superior (the world's largest freshwater inland sea) at the mouth of the mighty Michipicoten River, near Wawa, Ontario. Our focus is on silent sports: specifically sea kayaking, canoeing, Voyageur Canoe, and hiking. Our base includes Rock Island Lodge B&B, great certified sea kayak skills, instructor and guide training programs, sea kayak and canoe rentals, shuttles and more. Our goal is to be your Canadian Lake Superior Experts!

Overview

This Sibley Peninsula sea kayak trip traces one of Lake Superior's most remote sections from the Silver Islet area along the outer islands ending at the quaint community of Rossport, Ontario. It's part of Canada Parks' newest national marine conservation area, a rarely paddled gem of agate islands, wilderness lighthouses and first-come, first-served saunas.
This trip begins with a group safety/paddling skills session and overnight camping near Rossport. The next day you will be shuttled to the Silver Islet area, then set off for nine days of paddling the crystal clear waters of the largest lake in the world. The route is dotted with hundreds of uninhabited islands. The surrounding landscape is semi-mountainous. Along the way, flat-topped cuestas of the Sleeping Giant give way to jagged hills of long-cooled lava, while the shoreline is composed primarily of gravel beaches and rocky points. The trip includes a number of open water crossings. Although time is built in for rough conditions, it is a trip for intermediate paddlers who are physically fit with previous wilderness camping.
