Spend 5 days paddling through the deepest canyon in North America. Travel through some of the most exciting whitewater rapids in the Northwest, and gain a better understanding of the historical significance of the Snake river, all the while camping riverside along vast white sand beaches.

Day 1:

Enter Hells Canyon with a warm welcome from splashy rapids among the pool-and-drop style Snake River. We will work through two class IV rapids before getting to camp where we’ll have an orientation meeting. Finish the day with plenty of free time for relaxing, hiking, fishing, or reading riverside.

Day 2:

Start the morning with plenty of exciting rapids. Come the afternoon, the river begins to mellow and allows time for swimming and floating. We’ll admire the towering canyon walls, warm sunshine, and native pictographs that we’ll spot along the way.

Day 3:

Today we’ll hike up from camp to get a panoramic view of the Snake River below. We’ll then float downstream to a historic sheep ranch. After lunch, some big waved rapids will carry us to a rich collection of Indian petroglyphs for us to admire.

Day 4:

Learn about the deep history of the massacre of Chinese miners along the Snake River. You can expect to discover fascinating wildlife, geology, and plant life that is native to the area.

Day 5:

Today we’ll float past by the confluence of the Salmon and Snake River. After a few more rapids, we will come up on the take out and drive back to Lewiston, Idaho.

Rafting The Snake River Through Hells Canyon

Services of our talented adventure consultants and professional guides, all meals/beverages as indicated in the itinerary (including beer and wine), all rafting/camping gear, and transportation to/from river meeting points.
In addition to the cargo boat that carries all the camping gear, we use two other kinds of river craft. The traditional raft is a 16-foot self-bailing, oar-powered raft which a guide controls with two large oars. (Many companies use 18-22 foot rafts, which take a good deal of the fun out of the rapids.) We also offer smaller 14-foot paddle rafts. Four to six people paddle while a guide steers. Many people enjoy rotating between crafts during a trip. On some stretches of river, we can add inflatable kayaks to the mix. You have the choice to ride in any of these boats, and many people enjoy trying all three during a trip. On the few trips we operate with less than 13 guests, we may not have enough people to support a paddle raft. (We will still have inflatable kayaks on smaller trips if requested.)
