Overview

A great start for beginners and families. The Milk River is a low volume and slow moving river, however there are some rapids, up to class II that add some excitement. This trip offers sand stone canyons and hoodoo walls, grass lands and rolling hills. This is a great place to learn with an easy start then building features leading to the class 2 rapids. Finish with a day of exploring the stunning Writing on Stone World Heritage Site!
The Milk River is the southern most river in Alberta flowing into the Mississippi River basin. this river slowly winds its way through grass land and farm land. carving deeper into the land it exposes sandstone cliffs and hoodoos. eventually leading the the amazing Writing On Stone world heritage site. An amazing landscape carved from the river and wind. Along the way expect to encounter Owls and Hawks and the incredibly docile Yellow Marmot. Also opportunities to find petroglyphs and carvings. Day 1:

Meet with group in Canmore or Calgary. travel to Milk River. Load and rig boats. Have lunch. Launch and travel to first campground (Cold Springs).

Day 2:

Enjoy break fast of champions eggs and bacon. Rig and launch boats. travel through building sandstone walls. Enjoy river side lunch. Continue travel to Poverty Rock. Set camp and relax. Fresh cooked dinner and then camp games.

Day 3:

Enjoy breakfast of champions oatmeal and fruit. Rig and load boats for last day of river travel. River side lunch. Arrive at Writing on Stone. Set camp and relax. Enjoy a fresh meal and explore the local hoodoos

Day 4:

Enjoy a breakfast of champions. meet your guide for an interpretive tour of the WOS site. return for lunch then travel back to Calgary/Canmore.
