Tena/Archidona, Kayak Ecuador's Headquarters

We believe it is essential to not only teach students fundamental kayaking maneuvers, but to also prepare paddlers to mentally deal with problems that appear in the river. So, new kayakers have a worthwhile learning experience and they can improve their skills and abilities.

Day 1:

Hotel/Airport Pick Up and Transfer to Tena. Quito, the capital of the country is located 3 hours away from our Headquarters. We are going to travel from the Andean city of Quito (9 350,4 ft) to the Amazon basin. Afternoon session to select and learn all about our Kayaks and Gear

Day 2:

Confort & Roll practice on the Misahuallí River + Descent of Tena River The second day we try to work on underwater comfort and your combat roll. To vary the class, we will also work on basic paddling and strokes and Swift Water Rescue.

Day 3:

Descent of the Anzu River & Basic Strokes practice. Technique before strength...today we will learn how to use a few strokes but effectively. Practicing correct techniques of Ferrys, Eddies and Pill Outs will be part of the day.

Day 4:

REST DAY! Discover the area by yourself or book a massage!

Day 5:

Descent of the Napo River & T-Rescue + Self-Rescue Practice

Day 6:

Descent of the Middle Anzu River & Swift Water Rescue practice. To be a solid kayaker we must know how to act in case of emergencies. Today after the descent we will do scenarios and learn how to re-act.

Day 7:

Descent of the Inchillaqui River or Jatun Yacu River (depending on the group’s level) & Transfer to Quito.

I'm a lifelong whitewater canoe tripper and instructor, just getting into whitewater kayaking. I took the 7-day course and I cannot recommend it highly enough! Santi is an INCREDIBLY patient and dedicated instructor; focused, passionate, and so invested in your progress. Despite running a busy business, he is totally focused on his students while on the water, and always checking in with you around the lodge. Dani and her team in the kitchen will blow you away with their creativity and adaptability. Food is fresh, protein-packed, and absolutely perfect for fueling paddlers. The rest of the facility is meticulously maintained, and the views of the jungle, mountains and the river feel surreal! While you're there, be sure to check out the local kids shredding the Misahualli River in the Amazon River Keepers program! This is a place that uses its knowledge and resources to support and grow their local paddling community from the ground up. Incredible knowledge, incredible skills, and just really, really good humans. You won't find better value for your money anywhere in the world, I'm sure of it!
