MHO Adventures
All Inclusive Backcountry Canoe Trips & Wilderness Guide Training
Overview
The perfect river for a short whitewater trip, the Petawawa River has long been considered one of Ontario's classic whitewater canoe routes. We start our journey at Lake Traverse and paddle approximately 50km to McManus, navigating the many Class 1 and 2 rapids along the way. While this trip is excellent for any paddler, it is also an amazing river to learn on. Our guides will teach you the whitewater skills you need to safely read and run rapids.
Located in the northeast corner of Algonquin Park, the Petawawa River is one of many tributaries flowing into the Ottawa River. It has served as a vital travel route for thousands of years—used by First Nations peoples living in harmony with the land, by early explorers seeking an alternate trade route between the Ottawa River and Lake Huron, and later by the logging industry. Today, it draws hundreds of recreational paddlers who come to enjoy its fun, splashy rapids and scenic campsites beneath towering pines.
