Overview

The Johnstone Strait on Canada’s West Coast is known for its large killer whale population and this exclusive summertime base camp on Vancouver Island is an ideal location to find them. The Wildcoast Orca camp is situated next to Robson Bight Ecological Reserve, a killer whale sanctuary and home of the famous Orca Rubbing Beaches. Whether you are up early watching for orcas from the beach or heading out for a sunset paddle, time at Orca Camp is relaxing and magical.
This 4 Day Orca Camp adventure begins with a 2.5 hour boat ride through the Discovery Passage and Seymour Narrows up into Johnstone Strait to Wildcoast's remote camp. From here, you launch your kayak into the waters of the Johnstone Strait each day in prime killer whale territory. Your guides will seek out wildlife including whales, bears, sea lions, and porpoises on your morning, afternoon and sunset paddles. They will interpret the behaviour of the wildlife you encounter and talk about inter-tidal sea life. Spacious safari tents in the remote rainforest ensure guests are comfortable and well rested during their adventure. Delicious gourmet meals focused on local ingredients are served daily in the base camp's large wood-heated common area where guests congregate after each day's outings. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the wood fired hot tub and sauna, rambling beach and evening campfires in addition to daily sea kayak excursions.

What Guests Are Saying

One of the best trips of my life. Saw killer whales every day, including from the boat, shore, and kayaks. Also saw a humpback, hundreds of dolphins, seal lions, a bear, and much more! Camp was as nice as, if not nicer than advertised.
