Overview

Embark on a 10 day expedition through 65 miles of coastline and islands from Loreto to La Paz. The juxtaposition of the Sierra Giganta Range and the Sea of Cortez create a dramatic and unique landscape. Camp on sandy beaches and swim and snorkel amongst diverse and colorful wildlife, including dolphins and whales. Spanning 10 days, sea kayaking through the Sea of Cortez covers remote waters that few people explore.

This sought after expedition remains highly coveted among paddlers all over the world. You may extend your vacation in La Paz after your kayak tour to swim with whale sharks. La Paz is one of the few places in the world where there is still an opportunity to observe and swim with whale sharks.

This expedition is perfect for the more adventurous paddler who desires remote waters, pristine surroundings, and a challenge. Kayak 65 miles of roadless coastline in the Sea of Cortez from Loreto to La Paz down south.

Day 1:

Take a short ride to our expedition launching point at Puerto Escondido. We will go over basic sea kayak instruction, a safety briefing, and an overall trip orientation. Once everyone feels ready, we begin the paddle south to our first campsite.

Day 2:

*Please note this is relevant for days 2-9. Wake up along to quite shores of the Sea of Cortez and paddle 7-12 miles, or 5-6 hours per day. There will be ample opportunities for relaxing, snorkeling, viewing wildlife, photography, stargazing, and hiking.

Day 3:

*Day 10. Soak up the last morning on the Sea of Cortez before arriving at our take out at Punta Coyote in La Paz. After we’ll be transported to a nearby hotel. Spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring the town. In the evening we will gather for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

Loreto To La Paz Kayak Expedition

What's Included - +

Full services of our Adventure Consultants, professional naturalist and bi-lingual guides, all meals and beverages as indicated on the itinerary, all transportation while on tour, all kayaking, camping and snorkeling equipment, and panga support for additional gear.

Equipment & Outfitting + -

For all of our Baja tours we use high quality, fiberglass kayaks, made by Seward. The majority of our fleet is comprised of tandems, as these boats offer the greatest stability, speed, and ease of paddling. There are typically a small number of single kayaks present on the tour, which will be utilized by the guides. Depending on weather conditions, and interest, they may allow guests to rotate into singles; however this will be at the guide's' discretion based on safety and the paddling objectives for the day. We also have a limited number of solo kayaks available to reserve and use throughout the trip (for an additional cost) for paddlers who have ocean kayaking experience.

Upgrade Options + -

Extend your stay in La Paz a day before or after your kayak tour for a chance to snorkel with whale sharks. These plankton-eaters are the world's largest fish, and can reach lengths of up to 42' (13 m)! Whale sharks migrate into the bay of La Paz from October through April, where the shallow water of the bay harbors the favorite treats of these filter-feeding animals. Meet your guides bright and early to get a head start on the water in search of these peaceful creatures. The tour is approximately four hours, depending on the number of whale sharks present, so you'll have time to spend the afternoon exploring La Paz's beautiful Malecon.
