This 8-day trip explores Portugal’s stunning Douro River Valley by kayak, blending scenic paddling with cultural immersion, wine tastings, and historic sites. Starting in Porto, you'll journey through terraced vineyards, medieval villages, UNESCO-listed landscapes, and more.
Day 1:
Meet your guide at 3:00 PM for an orientation, followed by a guided walking tour of Porto's UNESCO-listed historic center. Climb the Clérigos Tower, stroll the Ribeira District, and cross the iconic Luís I Bridge. Enjoy a welcome dinner together. Overnight in Porto.
Day 2:
Board the scenic Linha do Douro train eastward, enjoy a riverside picnic, and paddle to view prehistoric rock art. Visit the Côa Park Museum before settling into your vineyard stay. Overnight in Vila Nova da Foz Côa or something similar.
Day 3:
Begin your kayaking journey through a beautiful, remote stretch of the river. Enjoy a relaxed picnic for lunch and Port tasting at a vineyard in the evening before dinner. Overnight in Murça.
Day 4:
Paddle past historic wineries, including Quinta da Vesúvio and Quinta de Vargelas. Explore an 8th-century castle after a picnic lunch. Overnight in Murça.
Day 5:
Experience kayaking through the towering Valeira Lock. End the day in the village of Tua with time to relax or explore. Overnight in Tua.
Day 6:
Kayak to Pinhão, enjoy lunch in town, visit a family-run winery, and explore the Douro Museum. Overnight in Peso da Régua.
Day 7:
Enjoy a scenic final paddle with a riverside lunch and stops at a Roman bridge and spring. Relax at a riverside Baroque-style manor. Overnight in Ermida.
Day 8:
Take a morning train back to Porto, arriving around midday. Depart or extend your stay.
